Cory's Yoga History

Cory began practicing yoga in 1992 at the age of 21 while seeking relief for chronic lower back pain. The physical benefits of yoga were immediately obvious to Cory after only a few weeks of practice but what she did not expect was the immense resource yoga would provide for her emotional and spiritual growth. In 2002, Cory attended her first teacher's training and was inspired from her heart to become a yoga teacher herself. She has completed teacher trainings with Erich Shiffman, Paul Grilley, Sarah Powers, Cheri Clampett and Arturo Peal and has practiced and studied various styles of Hatha yoga over the years including Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Yin and Therapeutic Yoga. After spending 4 wonderful years at the Santa Barbara Yoga Center and several other studios in the Santa Barbara area, Cory relocated with her family to beautiful Ojai, CA where she teaches private and public classes.

Cory's Teaching Style

Cory's teaching style has evolved from all she has experienced and learned thus far in her life. Her education in different styles of yoga combined with her sensitive and compassionate nature enables her to address the needs of many different kinds of students. Whether teaching one-on-one or in a large group setting, Cory's attention is focused on creating a class that is appropriate for each individual student.

Encouraging students to tune in to the wisdom of their own bodies is one of Cory's greatest intentions as a yoga teacher. She is always focused on providing a safe and injury-free experience for her students. Cory teaches all levels of students, including beginners and offers various levels and types of classes. Her recent training in Therapeutic Yoga has inspired her to work with people who are living with physical pain due to back issues, illness or injury or people who are simply looking for a healing and deeply relaxing yoga experience. Cory also teaches active "athletic" yoga to those who are seeking a safe and mind-opening alternative to the gym.

What Cory loves most about yoga is how incredibly versatile it is and it has been one of her goals as a teacher to help breakdown the way yoga is often depicted and stereotyped in Western culture. Cory believes yoga has something to offer anyone who has even a remote interest in his or her own body and mind.
